I had to share this! I was in Los Angeles last week for work. While there, I met a dear friend for dinner at Susan Feniger's Street. I'm a huge fan of what Chef Feniger does with food. Her dishes are creative, beautiful, made with fresh ingredients and incredibly tasty. Chef Feniger was in that night and, being the food nerd that I am, I had to get a picture with her.
My friend, a colleague from my days as a newspaper reporter shared a wonderful meal that included, the Kaya Toast and Mandoo Vegetable Dumplings for appetizers, Braised Short Ribs and Charleston Shrimp for the main courses with Spaghetti Squash and Roasted Celery Root Puree as sides. We shared everything and we both loved every dish. A favorite would be hard to choose, but let's narrow it down to the short ribs and dumplings. Both were incredible.
Speaking of incredible, or at least very good, if you're looking for some healthier sides for this Thanksgiving, you might want to take a look at some of these. Remember, everything in moderation this Thanksgiving. Take a little of everything you want, but keep the servings small. Try to work on getting some exercise. A walk after dinner is a great way to both help digestion and burn a few of those calories you just took in.
Let's eat!

I remember watching Feniger in the days before Food TV. She was and is a great role model for female chefs who, even today, are not always taken as seriously as their male counterparts. I'd have dearly loved a taste of those short ribs!
Love green beans. I recently sauteed French green beans with 2-hour oven cherry tomatoes. I will serve the same side dish for Thanksgiving.
